Webcast | Pre-Opening Performance:
American Voices—Spirit of Revolution

To launch The Broad Stage, we have worked with Conductor Kent Nagano to premiere a series of original works illuminating timely ideas about the origins of American values, about America’s restlessness, its richness and racial challenges, and America’s defining war with itself. This is art of relevance just six weeks before a presidential election. We are using these performances to test how The Broad Stage technical systems perform in staging music, oratory, song, and drama. Enjoy.

The great American composer Charles Ives (1874-1954) wrote miniatures, songs and symphonies inspired by the sights and sounds of his day. Kent Nagano, conductor of the Montreal Symphony Orchestra and music director of the Bavarian State Opera, has selected Ives’ excerpts for chamber orchestra interwoven with spoken text read by actors.

American Voices: Spirit of Revolution will explore the drive for innovation behind our Constitution and for a maverick conception of music that could have only happened in America.
