“His music absorbs everything from nineteen twenties neoclassicism to blue-grass and modern indie pop, with potent melodies bridging the disparate styles…”
-The New Yorker
Gabriel Kahane is a singer, composer and pianist for the 21st century. The son of famed conductor Jeffrey Kahane, Gabriel has carved his own genre-blurring path. Armed with what the New York Times calls a “sonorous, mesmerizing baritone voice,” Gabriel performs music that skips between indie, classical and theater.
As a pianist, Gabriel has performed and/or recorded with Rufus Wainwright, Elvis Costello, Chris Thile, Hilary Hahn and Sufjan Stevens. As a composer, he has upcoming writing projects for the Kronos Quartet and The Public Theater.
Kahane first won over fans and critics with his popular song cycle Craiglistlieder – art-song settings of eight anonymous posts found on the personals/classifieds website craiglist.org. This piece, which will be performed for the concert, is an unlikely affiliation of raucous pop culture and deft high-art craft.
This performance will most likely fill up quickly, reservations are highly recommended! Adult audiences recommended.
