The Broad Stage

It's been called enormously intimate and acoustically astonishing. A state-of-the-art facility housed within a striking, modern architectural landmark, the Broad Stage at Santa Monica College's Performing Arts Center features world-class equipment and technology expertly operated by top-ranked professionals.

Technical Overview
The Broad Stage is a fully loaded, professionally sized stage. Maximum seating capacity in the auditorium is 538. The building comes with an impressive inventory of lighting, video, and sound equipment.

Lighting
The Broad standard lighting positions include a 1st and 2nd AP, near and far box booms, balcony rail, eight on-stage side-light booms, and nine over-stage electrics. The rep-plot consists of about 150 conventional lights, forty-eight color-changing fixtures, and thirty intelligent lights.

Audio
The Broad Stage comes equipped with a Yamaha Digital Audio System. Two digital consoles (DM2000-FOH and M-7 - Monitor Mix), and 48 channel digital snake provide the cleanest digital signal possible. This is complemented by 12 channels of wireless microphones, a high-end microphone package (including Sennheise, Neumann, and Schoeps microphones), and 14 stage monitors. Our audio system is capable of providing Stereo, 3.1 or Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound (for film screenings).

Video
The Broad Stage comes equipped with a Christie CP2200 Digital Cinema Projector and a Doremi Digital Media Server which service a movie screen 42 ft wide by 20 ft tall, making the Broad an ideal screening house. Our Sanyo Pro Xtra X Multiverse Projector services a 16 ft by 20 ft projection screen or digital projections on our white cyclorama.

The Stage
With a full complement of soft goods in place, stage area dimensions are 40 ft wide by 38 ft deep. The Broad has a ribbon grid that is 54 feet from the stage floor and a fly system of 38 working line-sets. We have a Marley floor and a full orchestra shell available in three configurations. 80% of the Broad Stage deck is trappable.
